wish it would light up the correct screen keyboard keys after i make a mistake.
I came to this from PianoNotes Pro, and I highly recommend both together. Both work superbly with my MIDI keyboard (requires $30 Lightning/USB camera adapter from Apple); my piano sight reading has gone from agonizingly slow to fluent in really just a few months, 20 minutes/day. Both come with free iPhone versions. Differences: NT runs no timer, but only gives you one shot at hitting the right note(s); PNP does the opposite. NT is more structured and explanatory — it feels like more of a course; PNP keeps your high score like a video game, which I find wonderfully addictive (and has a guest setting too). NT teaches you the more complex chords when youre ready; PNP offers more personalization and now tests you on your scales. NT offers multiple-choice buttons too, for non-pianists; on the other hand PNP lets you slap the name of the notes on the onscreen keyboard if you choose. Between them these two apps have more than justified the price of my iPad and given me a full and effective education in piano-playing and sight reading. All my thanks to the creators.
Sight reading went from an all out effort to just like reading words. I cant say how strongly I suggest using this app. I am a guitar player and have learned piano strictly by using this app to start the process. My piano skills are approaching guitar skills because of this app. Well worth it !!! I use it daily
Only way it could be better is if it let the user sing or play the note through the ipads built in mic. great for studying though.
I like it very much. The design is very good.
Simple, if you want to learn to read music, in any key, use this app and you will be successful. The only other thing I have to say is: *If you are a complete beginner, like I was when starting to use this app, make sure to learn how to recognize key signatures/notes from elsewhere before using this app, because it doesnt tell you the acronyms/tricks to get that down.*
Irritating app. It does not give you any indication as to weather you played the right note or not as you play the note. Kind of a waste with no visual feedback
I am an adult first time music student. I am working on piano. I wanted to get up to speed fast with note recognition. This did the trick. I am solid on treble clef and getting better on bass clef in only about 8 weeks. I use it like a game. I try to do it faster each time.
Functions with any issues and exactly as advertised. I couldnt be happier with this app. I used to play viola, so alto clef may be helpful to some people, but its not a wildly popular clef.
Why in hell does everybody try to cram bass clef down my throat????? Piccolo players dont do bass clef. Violinists dont do bass clef. Classical guitar players dont do bass clef. Why not force feed Chinese, Russian, Sanskrit????? Grief!!!! 1 star.
This is easily the best sight reading program I have found. It has excellent pre-arranged lessons but also has the capability to do customized lessons. Excellent MIDI connectivity. Something for everyone in this program.
Im a Harper and my trouble in music is learning to sight read fast enough! The way this is set up, it gives you different ways of training yourself. It helps with speed and accuracy in reading music. I recommend this app for beginners and advanced who may just need to keep sharp!
Been playing for years. Wish this was around when I started out. Now my 5 year old is learning notation. Great job!
I virtually learnt how to read sheet music without any prior knowledge using this app. I can practice few exercises almost anywhere. Having a guitar or bass fret as an additional option to the piano will be a nice plus that could attract many string players. Thank you!
Im new to reading treble clef and this is a great practice app.
This app is excellent for cultivating musical literacy. I used to play various instruments, but its been a while and Im pretty rusty. Ive been using this app to regain my abilities with the convenience of simply pulling out my phone and practicing for several minutes a day. Of course, I intend to actually start playing again eventually, but this app is great for mastering the cognitive aspect of music so that Ill be able to focus on the technical aspect when that time comes.
Ive tried a bunch of note training apps but most have weird interface issues that make them a pain to use everyday. This is just such a straightforward app, its easy to quickly get some practice in anytime you have a minute or two. I love that you can just practice lines or spaces and mix and match as you go. It would be great to have a calendar that shows the days Ive practiced and the streak Im on. Thanks to the creators!
I love this app. Now I can practice reading music whenever I have a minute to spare. Awesome! Worth the money!
App is simple but good. No bugs or crashes, does exactly what it says. Great job!
